WAKA 2.4

2016 Saw WAKA start the year with its more league teams then ever before with 7. WAKA started out the spring with 3 teams in Secaucus, 2 teams in DAA Sunday mornings, a team in DAA weeknights and a team in Ridgefield park. This year would be a test on managing each players time and schedule. We started off the year with a DAA Spring tourney win which set the tone. All of the teams came out of the gate winning games and performing to the expectations that had been set by teams in past years. It wasn't before long that the schedule started to takes its toll however. Injuries started to pile up and attendance became an issue across the board. It took every last guy being asking to play on almost every team we had just to get enough guys to field a team. The most impressive part was despite missing guys on all different teams we were able to win while piecing it together. We also added some new sponsors such as Bergen Brick Oven and The Beer Spot. Both Sunday teams went on to win the A and B div championship's (A first for this league). WAKA/JPJ went on to win the Spring and Fall championships again also for 6 in a row in the A-Div in SEC. WAKA/Northern Air made it to the Spring SEC B championship only to lose in game 3. WAKA/Prime Time won the A-Div Championship in the DoubleAAsports weeknight Garfield league.

WAKA 2.2

From opening day of the 2014 season things just felt different. Every WAKA team felt like it was finally firing on all cylinders. The teams all went into the season thinking Championship or bust. 2014 was also the debut of the "OSU" logo. This  updated logo would jump start 5 new WAKA jerseys. Joining GreenRock as one of our sponsors was JPJ Plumbing and heating. We entered back into A-Flight Cliffside park. Being back in the league where WAKA first started was special but to go in and win the championship there was unforgettable. WAKA beat out Lamezza in the best of 3. Secaucus had been another league we had been close to winning a championship in. 2013 we were a few outs away and couldn't close it out in the B-Div. However 2014 would see WAKA/JPJ play for the A-Div Championship. WAKA would go on to win vs Fab Stylz in a 3 game sweep (best of 5 series) that spring to claim it's first SEC championship and its first "official" championship wile carrying the WAKA banner. The Fall season was more of the same with WAKA vs Fab Stylz again in the finals with WAKA winning 2 out of 3 games for Back to Back 2014 SEC championships. The Sunday morning teams all found new levels of success with the WAKA/GreenRock team pushing strong into the B playoffs to lose in the semi finals of game 3 vs the MK's. Waka-Young Gunz was formed in the Fall and would first play and Win the DoubleAA summer Tournament. From there we went on to play in the ASA National Championship in Ohio. After a disappointing showing there the team made a strong stand in the Sunday morning league to finish 3rd overall out of 77 teams. The amount of jerseys and looks brought a bunch of attention to the team and would become the catalyst in the sponsor hunt in seasons to come.

WAKA 2.3

2015 would be more of the same in terms of winning.. We finally set up our D tournament team and played in some ASA events. We ended up winning a few including a state qualifier and went out to Virginia for the ASA Regional championship. We finished 3-2 and even though we didn't get the results we wanted we did have a lot of positive things to build on. Our league schedule in 2016 was crazy! In the Spring there were 6 different teams in 4 different leagues. The Fall saw 5 different teams in 3 leagues. Overall we won 6 championships out of the 11 teams. The first ever Ridgefield Park WAKA team went on to win the championship. No team had ever won that league in its first year. The WAKA Secaucus A team won Back to Back again in the Spring/Fall seasons making it 4 Championships in a row in that league which had also never been done. WAKA's B Secaucus entry in its first season together went on to win the championship in the Spring and make it the first time an A/B team combo had won a Championship in that league. The DoubleAA Sunday morning Home Dynamix team finished the year at a perfect 26-0 becoming the first WAKA team ever to go undefeated. They finished 1st out of 75 teams. The other WAKA Sunday morning team made it to the semi finals but weren't able to finish. The Fall saw the Sunday morning HD team repeat as champs and WAKA Prime Time took home the Garfield championship for their first time in that league. All in all WAKA had 2 great core groups of guy to set out to take on some different divisions in different leagues. The question would be: Can they keep the success going or would they fall victim to complacency.

WAKA 2.3 > 2015-2016

WAKA Tournament Team

2015 was our first real year playing in some tournaments. We started out the year winning the DoubleAAsports Spring Tourney. From there we went on to win a NJ State D tournament. We went up to Connecticut and after losing our second game and fought back in the losers bracket all day to finish 2nd. That was a tough one considering we had guys leave and went up with only 12 guys to begin with. Prime Time jumped on board to become the teams main sponsor this year and a new Jersey with Logo was in order. We finished off the summer by heading out to Virginia to play in the ASA regional qualifier Labor Day weekend. Like always we dropped our early game and had to fight back in the losers bracket. We finished 3-2 and overall saw it as a step in the right direction considering Ohio the year before.

WAKA Gear

We finally fished getting together some off field gear after a long time looking. We went with a Nike order for some normal shirts and shorts. We also went out and got our guys some custom batting gloves. On top of that our hat game went to the next level when we added 2 more hats to the mix. An all white with kelly green "Tournament" hat and a Black/White/Yellow Alt hat.

WAKA Indoor

2015 was the first time we tried our hand at playing in the Winter Indoor league. It was a very different type of game then we were used to playing. It took us some time but we adjusted after a short time and made our way to the championship. We ended up losing in the ship but it was a good time and even though we did't get what we set out for a second place finish was nothing to be ashamed of.

WAKA 2.1

After two seasons with the revamped roster and a popular look, WAKA was looking to just fine tune some of the teams. After a disappointing Sunday morning finish in 2012 and a lack luster finish in Secaucus, change was in the air. Rosters were shaken up a bit and things got back on track.  A new logo debuted on our first true Tournament team. The team would enter and win a big tournament in NJ. (see pic on bottom left) This would be our  first tournament win. We felt we had again taken a step to the next level and the excitement started to build. The 2.1 font was only used for a short run after it debuted in 2013. Despite being used in only 2013 before a change to the .0 in 2014, this logo would end up on a total of 5 jerseys including 2 that were used in 2014.

WAKA 2.0

The Spring of 2012 saw the debut of the new WAKA logo and the start of a new set of teams. We left Cliffside Park for Secaucus and left A-flight for DoubleAAsports. With a new team in a new league with new jerseys, the modern WAKA team was born. This was now a set of teams filled with guys who really cared about winning and playing at a higher level. The roster was tweaked with some guys leaving and some new blood coming aboard. This was the first time a team motto was used and it stuck. "Win The Day" The motto helped bring these teams together and seemed to get everyone on the same page. 2013 with be quite the test as it saw WAKA make the A-Div playoffs Sunday mornings and follow that with a 2-16 season in the fall. In Secaucus we also made it to the B Championship only to lose to The Sharks.
